So, as promised, I went to the San Francisco Street Food Festival this past Saturday. I really enjoyed myself. I am a people watcher, and boy, were there a lot of people there for me to watch.
As you can see from the picture above, the festival is held in a residential area of San Francisco, streets are blocked off and the festival is literally on the front porch of people’s houses…well, not really, but almost! 😀 I was impressed with a few of the neighborhood children who took advantage of this opportunity and held their own little bake sale.
The one in the middle saw me with my camera & quickly gathered the other two girls, they then posed so I could take their pic-too cute!
There were people from all walks of life at the festival, every race, every religion, all gathered together for one purpose…to feed their faces!!! It was exhilarating to be around like-minded folks! Everything looked & smelled delicious…but I could not eat everything…so instead, I settled for taking as many pics as I could & choosing a few things to eat.
First up, these folks were visiting from Portland, OR, so I decided to give them a try:
Yep, you read that sign right, that’s exactly what it says! I decided to head around back & see what they had cooking’ on the grill:
Looks good, smells good…Mama likes! Mama ordered! I opted for the 1/2 sandwich, that way I wouldn’t get too full & could sample something else! 😉
I took a pic before my first bite…Roast Beef, Cheese, Onions & a little surprise…French Fries! Yes, it was as yummy as it looks! Score! And it was $4, so I still had money in my pocket, on to the next conquest!
I didn’t have to look far, first I saw the long line, and as Andrew Zimmern always says: Go to the booth with the longest line, it means their food is good! I was aware of Chaac Mool via Facebook & Twitter, but had never eaten any of their food.
I kept seeing people walk by with these nachos and knew I had to try them. I walked up to the Chaac Mool truck and placed my order ($8), I had them cover it so I could take it home. The meat (I believe it was pork) was very well seasoned. It was topped with shredded lettuce and some kind of cheese, reminded me of mexican cheese, not sure exactly what kind it was though. I ate about 1/4 of it and then my oldest pretty much “stole” it from me! lol! He was quickly joined by his little partner in crime, our youngest! Those two boys were fighting over the nachos! The little one picking off all the meat and eating it and the oldest telling him not to eat all the meat. Yes, they were that good!
If you ever have a chance to go to the San Francisco Street Food Festival, you gotta go. It’s fun and the food is delicious! Here are some more pics for you!
