Well, the time has finally arrived… my last review for the California Wine Club, I have enjoyed this “assignment” immensely! It has given me a chance to learn more about wine, in general, and more specifically, the local CA wines that are so plentiful here. If they ever need someone to review their wines in the future, you can bet I will be first in line. The company has been a pleasure to work with, the wine shipments have all arrived on time, and I must add they are packaged very well. Kudos to the California Wine Club for a job well done!

This month, I got to try 2 fabulous wines from the San Luis Obispo region. If you have ever visited this area, you know it is breath-taking… and so were these wines!
First up, we have Tangent 2010 Viognier. Tangent is a “cutting-edge winery, dedicated to the exploration and creation of cool-climate alternative whites.” These wines differ from most, in that they are made without the influence of oak and have screw caps. I was eager to try this white wine. This Viognier is full-bodied and complex, as I opened it, I was met with the fragrance of apricots and lychees… it smelled amazing! The taste was like nothing I had experienced before. It has a very rich flavor, I could definitely taste peaches (YUM!) and something else I couldn’t quite place… but I knew I liked it! This wine would go great with any meal.
Next up, I got to sample Trenza, Mourvedre-Syrah-Grenache 2009. This wine blew my mind! Like the first one, this wine is very different from anything I have tried in the past. Trenza, (Spanish for Braid,) is a winery “dedicated to the production of unique New World blends.” This wine is a combination of three varieties, and it is a winner! When I opened this one, I was met with the fragrance of berries and mocha… it was heavenly! It tasted like berries…blueberries, raspberries and vanilla…with a hint of toasty oak. This may be my favorite out of all the ones I have sampled. We enjoyed it with a meal of grilled shrimp and burgers. You can’t go wrong with this one!
