National Geographic Kids Insider- Great Nature Project!

September 26, 2013

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for me. Back-to-school for the kids, sports, homework, conferences… I’ve hardly come up for air! But I’m loving it! All the running around, while it might be hectic- it reminds me that I’m alive!

One of the most exciting things to happen to me, was being named a National Geographic Kids Insider! Yay! I have loved National Geographic since I was a kid. I can remember being in 4th grade, my Geography teacher, Mrs. Roberts, had stacks of National Geographic magazines in her class… years worth of subscriptions! I’d pour over those mags every chance I got. Seeing all the different foreign destinations featured, and learning about people from all around the world fascinated me! The photos were always incredible! I was drawn to the pictures. FINAL INSIDER LOGO Hi-Res To think, all these years later, I am now working with National Geographic Kids, it blows my mind! Be expecting lots of cool posts from me, sharing all kinds of exciting news and activities… maybe even a few surprises along the way! Here’s my first! National Geographic Kids is trying to set a Guinness World Record… but they need YOUR help! great-nature-v2

“Hey kids! You can help NG Kids set a Guinness World Records title! We need 100,000 photos of animals to set this record. So get your friends, family—even your entire school—to send us animal pictures!
How to Participate!

1) Take a picture of an animal in nature—a butterfly, a squirrel, even your pet outside. (The animal must be a major part of the photo, which must be at least 300 x 300 pixels.)
2) Grab a parent and upload your photos to NG Kids My Shot
3) Hashtag the photo #GreatNature and #animal.
4) Take more photos of animals! You can upload as many as you want, as long as they are all different. http://ow.ly/nt7Rf
So there you have it, snap a picture of a plant or animal in your neighborhood, and upload it to a photo sharing site like Flickr, Instagram, Twitter, or National Geographic Your Shot, making sure to tag it #GreatNature. To participate in the record, add #animal to any animal photo.”

Let me be the first to share a few of the pics I’ll be contributing to the cause! That’s right, adults can send in pics too! I’m a huge lover of nature photography!
