Did y’all hear about this? I came across this story last week & could not believe what I was reading! Apparently, an elementary school in Utah, served school lunches to dozens of children and then took those same lunches away from them.
The cafeteria staff reported that the children whose meals were taken away, had delinquent lunch accounts. So basically the kid’s had no money on their school lunch tabs, or very little money. Usually when this happens- the children are served a piece of fruit and a beverage. This time, there was some confusion, and the kids mistakingly received hot lunches. When the cafeteria staff realized the mistake, they went up to the kids-took their trays of food away from them, and THREW THE FOOD IN THE TRASH! (Once a meal has been served to one child, it cannot be given to another, that was their excuse for throwing the food away.)
In a day & age where children are going without food and hungry, this school opted to throw away perfectly good food. Does that make any sense at all? These were elementary school children, not high schoolers. These babies didn’t understand what was going on. I know my child would be extremely upset if someone took his tray of food away from him and threw it away!
The RIGHT thing to do would’ve been to allow the children to keep their trays of food & allow them to eat a hot meal. They could’ve sent notes home with the kids, informing their parents that meals were served and needed to be paid for. Don’t snatch food out of the mouths of babies! Who does that?! What did they accomplish? Traumatizing kids and throwing food away made more sense to them than allowing the students to just keep the food & eat it?
UTAH, you can do better!
