Growing up biracial, I was exposed to both the English & Spanish languages, which included Spanish TV. I clearly remember visiting my Tia’s house as a child, sitting on the couch with her and watching her favorite show: Lucha Libre! That’s wrestling, for my readers who don’t speak Spanish.
I must’ve been around 4 or 5 years old when I first watched wrestling with her. I knew a little Spanish at the time, but not a lot. My Mom never really spoke to us in Spanish when we were little -she wanted us to be proficient in English. When I watched the Spanish channels on TV, there was plenty I didn’t understand.
Watching Spanish channels actually helped me learn to speak & understand Spanish. Who would’ve known watching Lucha Libre with my Tia would help mold me into the person I am today.
Things would have been a whole lot easier if I’d had the option to switch back & forth between English & Spanish while watching TV. No more asking those around me what was being said, no more missing punch lines… but that wasn’t available back then.
Fast forward to today and my how things have changed! I can now watch my favorite shows in English AND Spanish with http://www.xfinity.com/x1. Sports, news, apps, customer service, movies, kid’s shows; all in the language I choose. With X1, everything is finally bilingual, like me!
