We lost an icon today. Mary Tyler Moore has passed away at the age of 80.
I can clearly remember watching the MTM Show as a child. I remember being in awe of her character on the show-I thought she was so cool. Why? Because she lived all by herself, had her own apartment & had a job that looked exciting. She wasn’t married, didn’t have kids, but was still successful. Even as a young child, I knew that was different from everything else I’d seen on tv. What I didn’t know back then, was that the Mary Tyler Moore Show was my first glimpse of the “F” word: Feminism.
Over the years, anytime I’d see Mary at an event (on tv of course), she was always the epitome of class. From her clothes to her interviews, the way she carried herself-she was someone I aspired to be like.
Mary Tyler Moore taught me being a Feminist was ok. She lived her life with strength, compassion & dignity, helping & inspiring many along the way.
Thank you for being such a positive role model for little girls & grown women everywhere. May you rest in peace.
