As we gingerly tiptoe into 2021, I want to continue discussing topics we often avoid. (That’s right, she’s talking about funerals again!) There are many reasons to preplan your funeral, and I will discuss those at a later date. Today, I want to discuss the most important reason of all.
Why Plan?
Most of us like to plan for big events, don’t we? Think about all the important things that have happened in your life, like your wedding day. Did you plan for that day, or just show up at the church?
What about the birth of your child? I know I planned for the birth of my children years before they were even conceived! Did you plan for that day, or just show up at the hospital?
How about your children’s college education? Are you setting money aside for that, or are you just going to drop them off at college?
If you stop and think about it, we pretty much plan for everything in our lives. Well, almost everything.
Way too many of us don’t plan for our funerals. I get it, I really do. None of us want to think about our own mortality. We don’t like talking about our deaths, or what we want to happen after we pass.
So instead, we die and our families are left with the burden of making difficult decisions, at an extremely difficult time.
Just as we plan for everything else in our lives, we need to plan for our funerals. The amazing staff at Skylawn Memorial Park, are ready to help you.
Does your family know what your final wishes are? Do they know if you want to be buried or cremated? When the time comes, will they decide on an open or closed casket? Will they agree on how much money to spend? More importantly, will they HAVE money to spend? Is your funeral going to add to their debt?
None of us want to be a burden on our families. Yet, when we pass away without planning ahead, our death becomes just that, a burden. If there’s no plan to follow, our families are going to be left confused, wondering what to do next. Not only that, they’ll be left paying the bill.
The number one reason to preplan your funeral?
It’s simple. The answer is LOVE. This is your final gift to your family. You’re saving them the heartache of having to make difficult decisions, while overcome with grief. You’ll be the one planning, and paying, for your funeral.
What a comfort it’ll be to them, knowing you did all you could, to help ease their pain. And they will know you did it all, because of love.
