Recipe: Apple Turnovers!

November 11, 2013

I was recently sent an Empanada Fork to try out, so I decided to make Apple Turnovers! The Empanada Fork is a multi-use kitchen tool that helps you close empanadas, turnovers,   pastries, etc. It can also be used as a masher for mashed potatoes or anything else that needs mashing!

I found it easy to use and much more convenient than using a regular fork. I was able to close my turnovers in no time flat…and they looked so pretty! Let’s get to the Apple Turnovers, shall we?!

Ingredients
  1. 5 apples - peeled, and diced up
  2. 2 Tablespoons butter
  3. 1 C brown sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon OR pumpkin pie spice
  5. 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  6. 2 pkgs frozen Pillsbury Pie Crust, thawed
Instructions
  1. Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add diced apples. Stir & cook for approx 3 minutes. Add brown sugar, and cinnamon OR pumpkin pie spice. (I used pumpkin pie spice.) Stir & cook for 5 minutes. In cup, stir together the cornstarch & 1 Tablespoon water. Pour into skillet & mix well. Cook 2 more minutes, or until the sauce thickens up. Remove from heat and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 325*. Unfold Pillsbury Pie Crust, cut out a circle, whatever size you want. I like them about 4 inches across. Spoon apples onto the center of the circle. Fold the pie crust over and press the edges down to seal. Place turnovers on a baking sheet, leaving at least 1 inch between them.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes, at 325*, or until the pie crust has baked completely. Cool before eating. Enjoy!
Notes
  1. Make sure you use sweet apples, not tart. I used both pkgs of Pillsbury Pie Crust, each box contains 2 pie crusts. I was able to cut out 13 circles for my turnovers from the 2 pkgs.
