Latinas Be Like … Got Meat?!

December 4, 2016

This is a sponsored conversation, in collaboration with Rumba Meats. All opinions are my own. img_2278

I’m SO excited! I told you guys a couple of days ago about all the delicious Mexican food my Mom used to make for me, things like Lengua Tacos, Tripas, Menudo, and Barbacoa … traditional Mexican meals. I grew up eating these dishes and I love them to this day. I enjoy preparing them for my family too, it’s one of the ways I preserve & pass on my Latino heritage to my multicultural children. My Mom did the same thing for me, growing up as a biracial child.

img_2279As much as I love to prepare Menudo, Tripas, and Lengua; I can never make it as often as I want to or even when I want to. The reason? The cuts of meat needed to prepare these traditional Mexican meals are hard to find around here. I’m in Northern CA-the San Francisco Bay Area to be precise. Yes, this area is a melting pot of people from all over the place, even so-finding the meat I need is a struggle. I literally have to travel an hour away to buy it. At least I USED to!

Today, when I stopped off at Lucky’s Supermarket to pick up a gallon of milk, I checked out the meat to see what they had on sale (you know I’m a thrifty shopper), and I got the surprise of the year! Right there in MY neighborhood Lucky’s was MY meat! Tripe to make menudo, Cheek meat to make barbacoa tacos, Lengua  & so much more … take a look for yourself!

Yes, I do believe I let out a little grita (a little victory yell!) when I saw that Rumba Meats are now available at my local Lucky’s Supermarkets! But wait, it gets better… Rumba Meats are also available at area FoodMaxx & Save Marts! Use this link to find a Northern California location near you: http://www.rumbameats.com/store-locator

Rumba Meats are committed to providing the highest quality specialty cuts to their customers. They celebrate diversity and cultural traditions. In other words, they get it!  They realize cooking with these cuts of  meat are important to us – because they allow us to prepare the traditional meals we grew up with-the ones our Mothers & Grandmothers made for us- the very same meals we are now making for our children.

You have no idea (or maybe you do!) how excited I am to be able to visit my local grocery store & find the ingredients I need to prepare the traditional Mexican meals my Mom made for me. No more driving an hour each way to a little carniceria (meat market) to buy my meat. Yay!

I’m happy to tell you I’ve partnered with Rumba Meats to bring you a series of recipes over the coming weeks. First up will be my Barbacoa Tacos … stay tuned!
