Seeing everything going down with Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee (and their daughters) right now is so sad… and triggering.
Anyone who has ever been in a relationship with a narcissist can probably relate. I’m sure Kimora felt like she had no other choice than to put Russell on blast, because nothing else, up to this point has worked.
To the outside world, narcissists can come off as extremely kind, and caring individuals. It’s all part of their persona. Everyone sees them as upstanding citizens, but behind closed doors they are a nightmare to those living with them.
They are way kinder to people they meet in the street, than their own loved ones. In fact, they will go out of their way for a stranger or casual acquaintance, but not lift a finger to help someone in their household.
This Jekyll & Hyde personality makes it difficult for folks on the outside to believe they are anything other than “great” people. They can’t wrap their heads around the notion that this sweet, kind person (to them), could be anything less, to their own family.
The narcissistic knows this, and uses it to their advantage, spreading lies about their victims, so no one will believe them. They blame their victims for everything, never accepting any responsibility for the ways in which they’ve mistreated and abused them. You see, in order to do that, they would first have to admit guilt, and they will never own up to that, ever! The narcissistic abuser will never come clean about their abuse, they will lie until their last breath.
Kimora and her daughter have lifted the veil, and drawn back the curtain, exposing a side of Russell Simmons that they see and know. A side which many folks will find difficult to believe, but can no longer deny exists.
My heart goes out to them, and everyone dealing with abuse, in any form.
