Everyone knows how important breakfast is, right?! It is the most important meal of the day. When you start the day off with a nutritious breakfast, you are giving your body everything it needs to function properly. You are refueling not only your body, but your brain as well. A nutritious breakfast can help kick-start your metabolism and give you the energy you need to get your day started.
Breakfast is even more important for our little ones. Children need a nutritious breakfast every day. It helps them do well in school. We all want our kids to have the best chance at a good education…they can’t concentrate on their schoolwork if their little tummies are growling. (Come to think of it, neither can I!) Research shows a positive link between breakfast and mental alertness.
As children grow up, they tend to start skipping breakfast. While 77% of young children eat breakfast on a daily basis, that number drops to 50% for middle schoolers… and just 36% for high school students. Not good.
So what does this mean for us Moms? Do we need to fire up the stove every morning and cook a hot meal for our children before sending them off to school? Sure we can… if we have time. The reality is that many moms do not have the luxury of having a lot of spare time in the morning. Never fear, Kellogg’s is here!
“In addition to being a convenient, nutritious and tasty start to each morning, cereal provides an excellent way for families to enjoy milk and all of its benefits.
Today in the U.S., cereal with milk is a leading source of 10 essential vitamins and minerals in children’s diets — nutrients that many kids may not get with any other meal.
But for all of the good milk can do, many kids would not realize these benefits without cereal.
In fact, 41 percent of milk consumed by 6- to 12-year-olds is consumed with cereal. And those numbers are even higher for African-American and Hispanic children.
So with Kellogg’s cereal together with milk, you have a wholesome and delicious way to enjoy breakfast and a powerful way to start the day.”
A Kellogg’s ® cereal and milk breakfast provides not only protein, but also four nutrients most kids don’t get enough of — fiber, calcium, vitamin D and potassium. And you know what else I love about Kellogg’s cereal? This!
Oh yeah, Now we’re talkin’! Rice Krispies Treats! Specifically, Pumpkins for Thanksgiving! I made these today with my little guy. We had a big ole sticky, messy, fun time! (Emphasis on Sticky!)
Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 10 oz package marshmallows (about four cups mini marshmallows)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- Orange food coloring (remember, yellow & red makes orange!)
- Green frosting in a tube
- Non-stick cooking spray (I used cooking oil!)
Directions
- Melt marshmallows in microwave with butter.
- Add food coloring and stir until marshmallow mixture is orange.
- Add Rice Krispies and mix thoroughly until entire mixture is orange.
- Spray your hand with non-stick cooking spray, then scoop out mixture and form into baseball-sized balls. (I just put cooking oil on our hands!)
- Add a green stem with the frosting.
- Enjoy!
I also sprinkled some orange sugar sprinkles on top of each one, but it doesn’t really show up, so I omitted that step.
Make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast every morning. What do your kids like to eat for breakfast?
Kellogg’s sent me a promotional item, but I was under no obligation to write a review. I was not paid to write this post. All opinions are my own.
