Keep Kids Learning All Summer Long (Thrift Shop Finds!)

June 25, 2013

Now that summer vacation is upon us; I wanted to find some fun ways to encourage my little one to continue learning all summer long. We’ve been working on his sight words, he needs to know them before school starts back up in the Fall. He loves board games, so I set out to find him some fun, educational ones at my favorite place… the thrift shop!

I’m a deal seeker, I love scouring thrift shops for bargains & hidden treasures! There’s nothing like finding a great deal on something you love. I’m not big on paying full price for anything, give me a sale any day! I enjoy saving money and using it for something exciting-like a vacation! Holla!

Back to my story. I went to my favorite thrift shop and was so excited to find not one, not two or three, but Four great games for my little one! Take a peek:

photo-174 I found a really cool game that will help him learn how to put sentences together, & teach him words at the same time. It’s called Silly Sentences. This one was brand new, had never been opened! photo-173 Another one will help him learn how to spell, it’s called Spelling Memory. It too, was brand new! photo-171 The next one will also help him with spelling, it’s Spelling Bee Bingo. It has 2 playing levels, one for beginners, like my little one & then one for kids that are a bit more advanced. I like that it will grow with him. photo-170 The one that I am most hyped about playing with is Sight Word Bingo! I really hit the jackpot with this one- just what I was looking for, a game to help him learn his sight words! He loves playing it & I have already noticed that he has learned a few words that he did not preciously know. And it’s fun! photo-175 photo-176So, for $10 & some change; I was able to buy four great games that are going to provide hours of entertainment for my little guy AND teach him all he needs to learn before heading back to school.

How do you keep your child learning during summer break?
