Women #RiseAboveIt When Life Gets Tough! {Giveaway}

November 22, 2013
This is a compensated campaign, in collaboration with Pine-Sol & Latina Bloggers Connect. All opinions are my own.

Most of us have faced challenges in our lives, some more than others.  When I heard about, “Aunque El Camino Sea Difícil, Las Mujeres No Se Rinden (When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It),” a campaign the makers of Pine-Sol® Products are backing, it really spoke to me. I’ve faced many challenges in my life.

PIN_CMYK_L_BM_041207As most of you know, I’m biracial, (Mexican & Caucasian), that in & of itself, is sometimes challenging. But it’s nothing, compared to being married to an African American man. Whether you know it or not, there are still MANY prejudice people in this world! Early in our marriage, we were faced with stares everywhere we went. In fact, I can remember being in a restaurant, just a few weeks ago, and noticing an older White couple staring at us & our children. The man just would not stop looking at me, he wasn’t smiling & I could tell he was not pleased with my family.

I really wanted to go over to him and say something. Instead, I chose to ignore him and enjoy my evening, and my meal, with my family. I figured someone as old as he was, probably wasn’t going to change… so it really wouldn’t have been worth my time or effort to say anything to him. By choosing to ignore him, I did not allow him to ruin my night out with my family. And maybe, just maybe, he was able to see the love in my little ones eyes when he looks at us, and vice-versa. Perhaps he saw that we’re a “normal” family-not sideshow freaks to be stared at all night.

 The makers of Pine-Sol® Products have teamed up with actress and activist, Rosie Perez, to launch the “When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It” Campaign. As part of the campaign, Pine-Sol®  awarded a $25,000 donation to Women Empowered, a nonprofit based in Los Angeles that connects, educates, and supports women of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring them to give back to their communities.Pine-Sol Infographic_ENGLISH
