This is a sponsored conversation in collaboration with Skylawn Memorial Park. All opinions are mine.

This year has been something else, am I right? Like, can we catch a break already? One thing 2020 has proved, is that we never know what the future holds. We need to be prepared, and plan ahead. I can hear you out there saying, “I’ve got plenty of toilet paper, I AM prepared!” That’s great, but I’m  not referring to T.P.,  I’m talking about being prepared for the inevitable. Yep, we’re talking end of life and last wishes. This is the discussion you keep putting off, but know you shouldn’t. Today, I want to talk about pre-planning for your funeral, and Skylawn Memorial Park is gonna help answer a few questions for us.

Pre-planning Saves More Than Money

Most folks don’t even know that pre-planning for cemetery & funeral services is an option, and they’re even less aware of all the benefits it provides. (Like pre-planning locks in your funeral arrangements at today’s prices. That saves you and your family loads of money!)  As a child, I remember being at my Abuella’s rosary, and my Tio walking around telling the grownups how much their portion of the funeral expenses would be. I recall this happening at more than one family member’s funeral services. There were always some family members who couldn’t afford to pitch in, and the rest would have to make up the difference. I was a kid, so I thought that’s just how things were. I’m sure some of you out there can relate. But that was then, and this is now!

Gone are the days where we leave our families footing the bill for our funerals. We have the power to make, (and pay for), our own funeral arrangements. Skylawn offers payment plans, for as low as $25 per month. Pre-planning saves our families from having to make all those tough decisions, while overcome with grief.  I’ve been in that position, and believe me, it’s not a good feeling.

When a loved one died unexpectedly, I was the one forced to make rushed decisions. Sitting in that small room, at the funeral home, trying to answer a barrage of questions coming at me, was extremely stressful. I couldn’t think straight. I’d just been told my family member was gone, and now I had to choose between a traditional burial or cremation. Did I want to pick out a casket? “Let’s go look at all the different ones, so you can decide.” What cemetery did I want to use? Would the service be open casket or closed? How many limos would we need? What kind of service did we want? Had we picked out the burial outfit? How much did I have for a down payment and how would I be paying the remaining balance? It was just too much.

By the time I walked out of that office; my head was spinning. And I kept wondering, “Did I make the right choices?”

Skylawn Memorial Park wants to spare you the heartache of going through that. Their Free Funeral Planning Guide can answer many of your questions, and assist you in the decision making process.

I had the pleasure of touring the cemetery and it left me breathless. I kept thinking about my Mom and the cemetery she’s buried in, and wishing she’d been buried at Skylawn. She would’ve loved everything about it. We all want the best for our loved ones. Their final resting place shouldn’t be any different.

I was blown away by Skylawn’s beauty. There were water fountains, gorgeous landscaping, tall shade trees, and deer, everywhere. The view of the Pacific Ocean was the cherry on top! I was pleased to learn plots with a view of the ocean start at just $6,000.

Skylawn does not discriminate. They believe everyone deserves to be treated equally, in life and beyond. They offer affordable burial plans, for both traditional funerals and cremations. There are people of every nationality, religion, and ethnicity buried at Skylawn, it’s the most culturally diverse cemetery I’ve ever visited.

As I drove around exploring, I had such a sense of peace. I can’t explain it. I came home raving about everything I had seen and learned. My husband commented that I was the only person he knew who could have “fun” at a cemetery!

There was something about Skylawn, the grounds, and the friendly & knowledgeable staff, that just put me at ease. I felt comfortable there. Usually cemeteries make me feel kinda “meh,” you know, kinda weirded out. I was at peace at Skylawn.

The day I was there, there was a funeral taking place. The facility is Covid safe. They’re following safety precautions, and keeping everyone healthy.

I could literally go on and on about Skylawn. In fact, I may write a few more posts about everything I learned in regards to pre-planning funeral arrangements. One post is not enough to cover all the vital information I want to share with you.

For now, answer this question for me: Do you want to burden your family with the responsibility of taking care of your funeral arrangements after you die?
